I've always had an interest in photography. As a hospitality professional working unsociable hours, I never really had or made time to pursue my passion.
I started a fashion blog a few years ago, but I found it so hard to take self-portraits. I didn't have fashion models to work with nor the budget to supply clothing etc. Eventually, I abandoned my project as my photography skills needed polishing, and I decided to focus on that first. I didn't have fancy equipment nor brilliant ideas, just a strong will. It took me a while, but I finally did it. And I am still learning, and I am happy with that. I enjoy my journey so much. It is what makes my experience so pleasant and my work so rewarding. I think it is crucial to love what you do before anything. You can learn any skill if you just put your mind to it. But you have got to have the attitude and the drive. Those are not skills you learn. You either have it, or you don't. And this is my creative journey into portrait photography.
These photos were one of the first photos I shot with my iPhone for my little fashion blog. I wasn't impressed for the obvious reasons, but they seemed like great shots at that time (looking at it from the perspective of an inexperienced fashion-blogger). I am sure many of you can relate. I was so proud of my black & white outfit - my black patent shoes and my cool silver look below. What drove me to keep going was the little voice in my head that said that if I give up, I am a quitter. And I am not a quitter. Learning a new skill with no formal training is hard. But if you are resourceful and persistent, you can achieve anything you want.
